Tip for securing your email id from spammers

Here is a tips for securing your email id from spammers. The email id if posted in public forums as a plain text is prone to SPAM attacks. This is because there are lots of robots softwares running across the internet which scans for email ids.

To avoid exposing your email address on your WWW pages, we can convert it to an image format. And post this resulting image on to different forums.

Try this recipe, executed on Linux command shell

pbmtext -builtin fixed you@domain.com | pnmcrop | ppmtogif > email.gif

The resulting image is in email.gif file, which can be posted as an image signature/avatar in various discussion forums.

Taking Book Type Printouts on Open Office Word application.

Booktype printouts reduces the paper usage to 1/4th. you can take 4 pages in One sheet of paper. You can do this using OpenOffice.
This is what you need to do.

  1. Select Print option from the File menu
  2. In Printer Properties, select the following options
  3. A4, Landscape, Short Edge
  4. In the Print Options select the option: Brochure

Once you do this settings, you should be able to get the printout in a booktype format, with pages appearing correctly as in a Book. You can fold it and staple at the middle to get a single book.
